A Tipton man has been arrested for a July incident where he’s accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence.

The woman in question contacted law enforcement on July 27th and stated that a note was left inside her Kimberlite Street residence in Tiffin that she believed was from an ex-boyfriend. She also noted that a bedroom window was broken.

Investigating officers noted visible handprints on the exterior of the window, between the window and the damaged screen. They determined that the prints couldn’t have been left on the window until after the screen was damaged. They were able to lift the prints and submit them to the Department of Criminal Investigation, where they matched those of 25-year-old Benjamin Thomas of Monroe Street in Tipton.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was booked at the Johnson County Jail at around 1:30 Tuesday morning. He’s been charged with 3rd degree Burglary and 4th degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both counts, Thomas could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
