Due to the local surge of Covid-19 cases the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is implementing temporary operational changes in an effort to protect our staff, the public, and the jail population.
Effective Thursday, November 12, 2020 walk-in business at the Sheriff’s Office public window is halted until further notice. For those who need to speak with our Records or Civil Division please do so over the phone at 319-356-6020 or via email. A complete list of email contacts can be found at our website.

The following changes are in effect until further notice:
Gun permits– Permit to Carry and Permit to Acquire applications will once again be accepted through the mail or placed in the drop box located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. Instructions and applications available for download will be found on our website.

Sex Offender Registry– In person address verifications and information changes will now be accepted over the phone. They will no longer be accepted in person in our lobby. More information will be posted to our website as well.
Accident Reports and Records Requests- Public records requests can be made over the phone at 319-356-6020, ext 3.
Civil Papers and Processes-Paperwork for our Civil Division can be left in the drop box found in the public lobby. More information will be posted to our website.
Jail Visitation-On-site video visitation has been temporarily suspended until further notice. Inmate, family, and friends can go to: https://secure.inmatecanteen.
