An Iowa City man who apparently decided to take a parting gift with him from a downtown bar was arrested for Public Intoxication St. Patrick’s Day evening.
An officer reportedly observed 19-year-old Connor Sutton of Muscatine Avenue carrying what appeared to be a stolen bar table in the 400 block of East Washington Street just after 11:30pm. When the officer asked Sutton about the table, he allegedly observed him with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and an odor of ingested alcohol. Sutton reportedly was evasive with his answers about how and where he acquired the table, then fled on foot.
After a brief chase, the officer apprehended Sutton. He allegedly ignored the officer’s commands until he had to be put on the ground and placed into handcuffs. He allegedly told the officer, “I’m drunk” when he was caught, and refused a PBT.
Sutton was charged with Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he could face up to 60 days in jail.
