An area transient who allegedly stiffed a cab driver for a $1000 round trip has been arrested.
According to the incident report, 32-year-old Kiosha Miller contacted Yellow Cab for a ride on February 23rd, 2019, asking to be picked up in Riverside and taken to Chicago. She was told that the ride would cost $600.
Upon arrival in the Windy City, Miller allegedly was unable to pay her fare. The driver reportedly gave her multiple opportunities and several hours to pay. Miller then requested to be driven back to Iowa, and was told that the round trip would run her $1000.
Miller was given an additional two days to make restitution upon her arrival home, but failed to pay her fare. The cab driver and the company filed charges against Miller seeking restitution, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Miller was already wanted for failing to appear at a 2019 trial stemming from a trespass incident at Perkins restaurant in Coralville that occurred in November of 2018. She was accused of loitering and not paying for the food she ordered. Arriving officers requested her to leave the premises, but Miller continued to argue with the officers in the parking lot. She was placed under arrest.
Miller was located and taken into custody Sunday afternoon. She faces 3rd degree Theft charges for the cab company incident and a Trespass charge for the restaurant incident. If convicted on the Theft charge, Miller could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
