A traffic stop has led to drug possession charges for an Ely man.

Sheriff’s deputies stopped 22-year-old Jonus Keaton of Hillside Drive on MacBride Dam Road Northeast in Solon Sunday night a little after 8:30 for driving his Cadillac without plates and for dark window tint.

When confronted, Keaton claimed that he had just purchased the vehicle. The windows were reportedly too dark to see into with the deputy’s eyes pressed against the glass. An odor of marijuana was allegedly observed, and Keaton was asked if there was any marijuana in the vehicle. Keaton then admitted that there was, and reportedly handed the deputy a pipe and a quantity of the drug from the center console. He also told the deputy that there was cocaine in the glove box.

A baggie with white powder was recovered, as well as another bag of marijuana from the driver’s side door.

Keaton was charged with marijuana possession, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal window tinting, and failure to provide financial responsibility. If convicted on the criminal charges, Keaton could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
