A Cedar Rapids man faces drunk driving and marijuana possession charges after leaving a downtown Iowa City bar while under the influence.
21-year-old Dylan Peterman was allegedly observed leaving the establishment at bar close early Wednesday morning. A check of the vehicle found that the owner was suspended from driving because of a previous OWI conviction. Once stopped by police on the 1100 block of North Dubuque Street, Peterman reportedly admitted to being the registered owner of the vehicle.
He allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol and marijuana about his person, and had watery eyes. Peterman told officers he knew he was suspended, consumed multiple alcoholic drinks that evening, and could still feel the effects of those drinks. He allegedly added that he even self-administered a PBT before getting behind the wheel.
After failing standard field testing, an official PBT showed his blood-alcohol level at .142 percent. Peterman denied smoking any marijuana, but the odor was still present. Additionally, loose and contained marijuana was allegedly located behind his driver’s seat.
Peterman was charged with 2nd offense OWI and Marijuana possession. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
