Iowa City Police arrest suspect accused of breaking into residence and assaulting victim  in dispute over money

Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say broke into another person’s residence and assaulted them in a dispute over money.

32-year-old Janard Goins was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9:30 Monday night. According to arrest records, Goins threatened a person who owed him money by texting them multiple times. Police say Goins entered the victim’s G Street residence without permission at 8:30 Sunday night and started an argument. The altercation reportedly became physical, with Goins assaulting the person and injuring their face, neck and arm. Goins also allegedly broke the person’s eyeglasses and caused property damage inside the residence.

Goins, who has no known address, is charged with 1st Degree Burglary. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
