An Iowa City man accused of sexually abusing children has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison.
43-year-old Munga Sapo of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community entered a guilty plea last month.
Sapo was accused of sexually abusing boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15. During the investigation into those charges, child pornography was also allegedly found on his cellphones. Sapo is also accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his wife and children.
Sapo was initially charged with eight counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse, three counts of 1st Degree Harassment, two counts of Incest, and one count each of Possession of the Depiction of a Minor in a Sex Act, Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Assault With Intent to Commit Serious Injury, and Child Endangerment.
If convicted on all charges, Sapo would have faced a maximum sentence of 236 years in prison. Online court records show he pleaded guilty to four counts of Lascivious Acts With a Child, two counts of 1st Degree Harassment and one count each of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Judge Kevin McKeever sentenced him to 32 years in prison.
