An Iowa City man facing charges that he sexually abused a five-year-old and another juvenile is now wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Iowa City Police say 58-year-old Martin Menjivar of the Modern Manor manufactured housing community created situations between August and November of last year in which he was able to spend time alone with a five-year-old victim inside his vehicle. Menjivar allegedly groped the girl on at least three occasions.
Menjivar was arrested Tuesday night for a separate case that saw him reportedly meet a juvenile the day before, take her to his vehicle parked on American Legion Road, place her in the back seat, and proceed to photograph the girl with her clothes off, then grope her.
Menjivar, who online records show requires an interpreter for his court appearances, is charged with four total counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse. If convicted on all four charges, he faces a maximum sentence of 100 years in prison.
Records from the Johnson County Jail indicate ICE has placed a detainer request for Menjivar. Earlier this week a similar request was also filed for another jail inmate, 29-year-old Hanier Ramirez-Garcia, who is accused of trying to entice minors for sex by using a fake Facebook profile.
