Two Iowa politicians serving in Washington are the targets of Democrats who announced runs against them this week.
Former US attorney Kevin Techau of Cedar Rapids is running for Congress to unseat 2nd Congressional District representative Ashley Hinson. He told the Gazette he’s running for the office to level the playing field for Iowa families, provide much needed relief for rising costs, fight to protect Social Security and Medicare, make health care more accessible and affordable, and strengthen the middle class. He says he wants Washington to work for the people of Iowa, something that’s not happening with Hinson representing them right now.
Meanwhile, Iowa Army and Marine Corps veteran Nathan Sage, executive director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, launched his campaign Wednesday to seek his party’s nomination to challenge Joni Ernst for her U.S. Senate seat. He says he’s running to give a force to working-class Iowans, who have seen the middle class shrinking, and people working longer hours for fewer dollars.
Sage joins an already crowded field including Sen. Zach Wahls from Coralville, Rep. J.D. Scholten from Sioux City and Rep. Josh Turek from Council Bluffs, who have told The Gazette they are considering running for U.S. Senate in 2026.
