The Humane World for Animals has exposed 12 Iowa puppy mills in their annual “Horrible Hundred” puppy mill report.
They include Westwind Wheatens in Red Oak, Demmer Doodles in Bernard, The Buttercream Ranch in Algona, Stonehenge Kennel in West Point and Brian Lichirie, a B Dealer linked to Stonehenge, Century Farm Puppies in Grundy Center, Rocky Callie Shelties and Douglas’s Shepherds and Doods in Dyersville, Rockytop Kennels in in Lansing, independent dealer Wuanita Swedlund in Farmington, Van der Zwaag German Shepherds in Hull, Wheatley Kennels in Adair, and BR’s Dobermans in Riverside, the source of a recent report where inspectors found 17 dead dogs and 49 others seized from the property for lack of proper care.
The report lists violations and concerns at a sampling of 100 problematic puppy mills across the country.
Iowa ranks third worst in the country, behind Missouri’s 26 and Ohio’s 16.
