Crash after Iowa City police chase takes down traffic lights at Governor and Market Streets

A crash that ended an Iowa City police chase has taken out the traffic lights at the intersection of Governor and Market Streets.

The Iowa State Patrol-initiated chase wound past the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame on Prairie Meadow Drive just before 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. Scanner traffic indicates the chase followed Melrose Avenue eastbound to Burlington Street, eventually ending when a vehicle crashed into the traffic control cabinet at the intersection of Governor and Market Streets. Traffic signals were out of service at the intersection for about two days.

No information has been made available regarding injuries or any criminal charges stemming from the chase.
