A Las Vegas woman was taken into custody on an arrest warrant, accusing her of attempting to cash a forged check.
Court documents indicate 50-year-old Shannon Limato was at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area during the noon hour January 25th and allegedly burglarized a woman’s vehicle. The woman’s ID and purse were stolen during the reported incident.
Four days later, on the morning of January 29th, Limato reportedly entered the Marion branch of Hills Bank with the victim’s ID and a forged check written out and signed in the victim’s name. She also provided the victim’s Iowa driver’s license in attempt to fool the teller. The check was written for $3745.
The teller suspected foul play and went to verify the authenticity of the check and the presented ID. Limato then allegedly left the bank, leaving the forged check and the victim’s ID behind.
Investigators were provided video footage of the incident, clearly showing Limito’s face. She was positively identified by other surveillance footage from similar crimes in the state, and her booking photo.
Limito was being held in Polk County for similar incidents; she was transported to Johnson County Wednesday to have her arrest warrant served. She was charged with Forgery, Identity Theft and 2nd degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, Limato faces up to fifteen years in prison.
