Coralville’s 2026 fiscal year budget includes a decrease in the property tax levy but homeowners will still see an increase in their tax bills.

The general fund budget will increase by about 2.7 percent, to nearly $34.5 million. Director of Finance Ann Hester attributed the increase to necessary services in a growing community, including new police vehicles and equipment, new parking ticket software and a license plate read system.

The city is also creating a full-time English language learning instructor at the Library.

Although the property tax levy is decreasing, the state’s residential rollback rate is going up, so property taxes will be applied to a larger portion of the property’s value.

Other increases affecting Coralville residents involve water rates, yard waste sticker fees, and parking in the city’s ramps.
