A Kalona woman was arrested on a warrant issued regarding use of a stolen debit card in March.

According to court documents, 48-year-old Veronica Gatlin of A Avenue gave the victim a ride to Veridian Credit Union on 2nd Street in Coralville  to open an account.  The victim was informed her previous account was canceled due to multiple overdraft charges.

Surveillance footage was discovered that allegedly showed Gatlin assisting her brother on March 11th depositing a forged check into the victim’s account, then depositing a second check on her own later in the evening.  Gatlin then reportedly used the victim’s stolen credit card to purchase items at a nearby smoke shop.  Gatlin later allegedly used the victim’s debit card to make purchases throughout Coralville and Johnson County without the victim’s permission. Gatlin was accused of running up over $2900 in charges on the victim’s account.

A warrant was issued on May 6th; Gatlin was taken into custody Tuesday evening. She has been charged with Unauthorized Use of a Credit card, Forgery, and 4th degree theft. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to a maximum 11 years in prison.
