The Johnson County Board of Supervisors has sent a letter to a company that owns several local mobile home parks, asking the company not to raise rent in order to pay for upgrades requested by the county.
The county has asked Havenpark to repair and/or replace storm shelters at its mobile home parks, as well as distribute copies of an emergency management plan. A letter approved by the board of supervisors earlier this week also asks Havenpark to keep an updated contact list for its tenants so they can be properly contacted with updates on water quality, severe weather, and other issues.
The letter asks Havenpark for a two-year moratorium on rent increases, so the cost of the upgrades is not passed along to tenants. The board decided to take action after a three-day water outage at the Modern Manor manufactured housing community in February.
Havenpark representatives say they look forward to working with the county on making improvements.
In Johnson County, Havenpark owns Modern Manor, Sunrise Village, and Lake Ridge in Iowa City, Golfview in North Liberty, and Western Hill Estates in Coralville.
