Iowa City Police have arrested a suspect they say was lying in wait to rob and attempt to sexually assault a woman outside her apartment building.
According to arrest records, just before 3:15 Friday afternoon 24-year-old Sheymouhr Red-Donald of The Quarters on Highway 6 East was waiting in the parking garage of the 316 Maddie apartments on South Madison Street when the alleged victim arrived home. Red-Donald reportedly commanded the woman to put her phone in her backpack, then tried to take the backpack by force. Police say he then dragged the woman by the backpack while making comments about sexually assaulting her.
The woman was able to break free, and Red-Donald allegedly stashed the backpack outside the garage after he took the phone. The alleged victim suffered multiple abrasions.
Red-Donald is charged with 1st Degree Theft, 2nd Degree Robbery, and Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
