Iowa City Police say a man who allegedly assaulted a convenience store employee could spend decades in prison.

25-year-old Antavis D.W. Watson was taken into custody just after 6:30 Saturday night after police found him outside a residence on 5th Avenue in Coralville. Watson, who lists home addresses on both 5th Street in Coralville and Lakeside Drive in Iowa City, reportedly attempted to run, but was eventual tasered and taken into custody.

Watson was wanted for an incident that saw him allegedly attack a clerk at the Muscatine Avenue Kum & Go just after 8:00 on the night of February 2nd. Police say Watson was trying to buy alcohol when he got into an argument with the clerk, who threatened to call the police. That led to Watson allegedly going behind the counter and punching the clerk twice in the face, causing an open, bleeding wound.

Watson is now charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 26 years in prison.
