The Johnson County Board of Supervisors will hold a special off-site meeting in Sutliff as part of the rededication of the Lorada E. Cilek Bridge.

In 1972 Cilek became the first woman elected to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. She served multiple consecutive terms until her death in May of 1982. Cilek led the effort to have a new bridge constructed after the Sutliff Bridge closure in 1979, securing continued access to cross the Cedar River for rural residents living in the area. Though the bridge was named in her honor shortly after her passing, signage was never installed. The Board of Supervisors will be honoring her contribution by unveiling the newly installed signage Friday morning.

The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. at the Johnson County Sutliff Operations Center, located at 5438 Sutliff Road NE. Following the meeting’s call to order, attendees will be transported to the bridge site where newly-installed signage will be unveiled on the southwest side of the structure.
