The Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County has announced $3.2 million in funding to support the development and/or rehabilitation of housing provided to qualified households.

According to a news release from the Trust Fund, eligible applicants include businesses, nonprofit organizations, builders, developers, and governmental agencies. Funding is available for affordable owner-occupied, rental, transitional and emergency housing in Johnson County.

Eligible householders would have income below 80% of the Area Median Income.

The maximum guideline for any new or acquired housing is normally $50,000 per unit. However, during this round of funding, it doubles to $100,000 for a two-bedroom dwelling.  Existing housing funding for rehabilitation doubles from $25,000 to $50,000 as well.

The critical shortage of affordable housing for people with low incomes is a national problem. Johnson County is one of the most expensive places to live in Iowa and affordable options have not kept pace with the need.

The application window is open now and closes July 3rd. A variety of training programs including an overview on the Revolving Loan Fund are available. The application along with application guidance can be accessed here: https://www.htfjc.org/revolving-loan-program

The Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit entity. It was founded in 2004 and has invested more than $17 million in creating and preserving housing that is affordable for 1,300 households with low incomes.
