Next week the Iowa Board of Regents will consider the University of Iowa’s request for final approval of three facilities projects.
The UI plans to remodel and expand the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories (IATL) on North Madison Street to create a permanent home for its computer science program. The renovation is estimated to cost $28 million.
The second project would involve expanding and renovating the Cambus Maintenance Facility, located at 517 South Madison Street, with financial assistance from a federal grant.
third project is the second phase of a donor-funded project to improve the game-day experience at Duane Banks Field, including reconstructing the press box, adding new seating, and other improvements.
Along with the three construction projects, the UI is also seeking approval to raze three campus buildings to make way for the UI Health Care Inpatient Tower. The Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center, Hospital Parking Ramp 1, and the water tower on Hawkins Drive each sit within the footprint of the planned new tower and need to be razed before construction can begin.
If approved, the three structures will be razed this fall.
Next week’s Board of Regents meeting is set for June 10-12 at the Levitt Center on East Park Road.
