An Arkansas woman was taken into custody on an OWI charge Friday afternoon.

57-year-old Laurie Hicks of Fayetteville was called in as an intoxicated driver by staff at the Lake Ridge Trailer Court on Old Highway 218 at about 4:30pm.  A sheriff’s deputy observed her operating a 2021 Honda with Iowa plates.  Upon contact, Hicks allegedly was unsteady on her feet and had to use a squad car to balance herself. She also reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech.

After showing measurable impairment on field sobriety testing, a Datamaster test showed her breath-alcohol level at .29 percent, over three times the legal limit.

Hicks was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to a year if convicted.
