Allegedly trying to serve alcohol to minors on a beach at Coralville Lake has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
Law enforcement was informed of a reported sexual assault at Bohemi Beach near Twin View Heights just after 10:00 Thursday night. A teenager reported that 62-year-old Mark Lipsius of North Dubuque Road had kissed her twice without permission and tried to serve her alcohol several times. The alleged victim’s friend, who is under the age of 21, also claimed Lipsius had tried to serve her alcohol. The pair also said Lipsius was witnessed trying to serve alcohol to other minors who were present.
Arriving officers say Lipsius showed signs of intoxication and claimed to have consumed one beer an hour for several hours. He refused breath testing.
Lipsius is charged with Supplying Alcohol to Persons Underage, Assault, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
