Transient who allegedly damaged a rental trailer told police he wanted to go to jail

An area transient who wanted to go to jail got his wish Saturday afternoon after allegedly damaging a rental trailer and being found with marijuana.

Police say 28-year-old Matthew Mark contacted dispatch just before 1:30pm and reported that he punched a trailer in the parking lot of Big Ten Rental on Boyrum Street. The officer who investigated the incident reportedly found Mark, who admitted to punching the trailer, leaving several dents. The damage estimate was approximately $1200.

Mark also allegedly stated that he had marijuana, and removed a small bag of the drug from his pocket.  He then reportedly stated that he wanted to go to jail.

Mark was indeed taken into custody. He was charged with 3rd degree Criminal Mischief and Marijuana possession, and could be sentenced to up to three years in prison if convicted.
