An Iowa City man wanted on an arrest warrant faces drug charges after police allegedly had to chase him down to apprehend him.

25-year-old Otis Dawson of Maggard Street was located by Iowa City Police on the 1200 block of Sandusky Drive Thursday evening.  When officers got out of the car and called out to him, Dawson reportedly fled on foot.

During the chase, officers say Dawson threw a bag of marijuana from his pocket onto the ground.  After securing him, police weighed the jettisoned drugs and found it weighed approximately 13 grams.

Two prior drug convictions elevated the charge to a Class D controlled substance violation. Dawson was also charged with Interference with Official Acts. If convicted, he could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
