A group of mobile home park residents is asking for a rent freeze until conditions improve at properties owned by Havenpark Communities.

The Gazette reports in 2019, the Utah-based Havenpark company began buying mobile home parks in Johnson County. Since then, residents of the Havenpark-owned parks have expressed concerns over sudden rent increases, questionable water quality and poor park maintenance.

Residents in some mobile home communities throughout Johnson County have struggled with drinking water contamination, and Modern Manor residents were without water for three days in January.

Johnson County Residents United, the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition and park residents spoke at a news conference Wednesday and asked for help from the Johnson County Board of Supervisors after they said communication with Havenpark about their concerns has been inconsistent.

The Board drafted a letter to Havenpark, asking for a two-year moratorium on rent increases, as well as improved park maintenance.
