What
Local Iowa City community resident Paige Adair is leading the inaugural Iowa City Walk 4 CMT, and she is doing it for a personal reason. Paige lives with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a rare, currently incurable, and debilitating neuromuscular disease. She organized this walk to raise awareness, build community, and help end the disease she lives with every day.

This Walk 4 CMT is being held in partnership with the CMTA Center of Excellence at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. The clinic is led by world-renowned CMT physician-scientist Michael Shy, MD, who provides expert care to individuals with CMT across Iowa, with many traveling from around the world to receive care through his team.

The event invites participants of all ages to walk in support of those living with CMT. The route follows the scenic trails of Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. An estimated 1,300 people in Iowa and more than 3 million worldwide live with CMT, which can cause muscle weakness, difficulty walking, loss of sensation, and more.
