A death investigation has led to the arrest of an Iowa City woman on drug charges.

67-year-old Marilyn Atkins was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 12:45 Saturday morning. Iowa City Police say they responded to Atkins’ Burlington Street apartment to investigate a death on the afternoon of November 30th, 2024. A search of the residence reportedly turned up small amounts of cocaine, marijuana, pipes, a grinder, a scale, and empty drug packaging.

Atkins is now charged with Keeping Premises for the Use of Controlled Substances, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum of over three years in jail.
