Illinois man charged with theft from Coralville box store

An Illinois man wanted for a pair of thefts from a Coralville store was arrested last week.

According to the police report, 58-year-old Darrin Baker of Rock Island was at the Lowe’s location on 2nd Street on February 15th. Store video allegedly shows him selecting merchandise and leaving through the main entrance with no attempt to purchase any of the items.

Baker reportedly returned the next day with an accomplice.  Surveillance video allegedly shows the accomplice distracting employees while Baker again leaves through the main entrance past all points of sale without paying for selected merchandise.  The accomplice also reportedly left the store with unpaid merchandise.

Between the two thefts, Baker and his accomplice allegedly took over $1300 in merchandise.

A warrant was issued March 25th; Baker was arrested June 18th and charged with 3rd degree Theft. He faces up to two  years in jail if convicted.
