Cedar Rapids man charged with Iowa City robbery

Two  Cedar Rapids men were charged with robbery after an incident in downtown Iowa City earlier this month.

Police say the victim was walking with 19-year-old J’Mirrion Walton of Ashton Place NE and 20 year old Andrue Cunningham of 4th Avenue SE at around 1:45am June 15th behind the Iowa City Public Library. Walton and Cunningham assaulted and robbed the victim by demanding that he empty his pockets.

The two allegedly got away with the man’s phone, wallet, and cash.. The victim complained of pain to the face as the result of the assault.  Surveillance video from the area reportedly shows Walton and  Cunningham leading the victim toward the library, then running from the area shortly afterward.

A warrant was issued, and the two were charged with 2nd degree Robbery. If convicted, both Walton and Cunningham could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
