Statistics released by the Cedar Rapids Police Department indicate shots fired are at a historic low.

June 2025 finished with only one confirmed shots fired incident, which is the first time since before January 2016. Most notable this month is the 67% decrease in shots fired for June 2025 compared to June 2024, as well as a 91% decrease comparing June 2025 to the five-year average for June from 2020-2024.

Officers continue their efforts to reduce violent action by anyone prone to aggressive behavior. Additionally, our work within the Group Violence Initiative alongside the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation, Foundation 2, Iowa 6th Judicial District’s High Risk Unit, and Juvenile Courts help drive these results.

Theft of vehicles and from vehicles went up slightly compared to last June, and burglaries dropped 2 percent compared to June 2024.

Police arrested a Davenport man earlier this week in connection with a string of residential burglaries on the southwest side of the city. Cedar Rapids Police say locking doors and windows is an excellent step to prevent unnecessary loss from “crimes of opportunity”. If you have a video doorbell or home security system, make sure it’s operational and take a moment to register it with Police. This does not give us access to your system; it simply lets investigators know if cameras are available near crime scenes.
