A transient faces charges that he tried to assault a social worker as he was absconding from University of Iowa Health Care.
36-year-old Cory Hogan was being seen in the UIHC emergency department for suicidal and homicidal thoughts around 12:15 on the afternoon of June 27th when he attempted to elope from the Hawkins Drive facility. While walking out, Hogan allegedly turned and twice punched at a social worker who tried to speak with him before Hogan left. The social worker told investigators he believed Hogan would have punched him if he had been closer.
Hogan was taken into custody at UIHC just before 1:15 Friday afternoon. Two meth pipes were reportedly found on his person during his arrest.
Hogan is now charged with Simple Assault and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on both counts, he faces up to 60 days in jail.
