A vehicle stopped for a non-functioning center brake light has led to the arrest of two men.

The Ford pickup was traveling southbound on Dodge Street just before 6am Thursday. The driver, 41-year old Kenneth Darbyshire of 13th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids, had his record searched and it was reportedly found that he was barred through the state as a habitual offender.  A probable cause search of the vehicle due to a faint odor of marijuana allegedly turned up a glass pipe used to smoke meth in the center console.  Darbyshire reportedly admitted ownership of the pipe.

His passenger, 40-year-old Joshua Davis of 9th Street in Coralville, was asked out of the vehicle. A search of his person allegedly discovered two plastic bags in his wallet, each containing over 16 grams of meth.

Darbyshire was charged with Driving While Barred and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and faces up to 25 months in jail if convicted. Davis is looking at a 35 year prison term if he’s found guilty on a Class B controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp charges.
