Iowa City Police have arrested an assault suspect they say had numerous illegal substances in her car.

20-year-old Shantoria Cooper of Oakland Road NE in Cedar Rapids is accused of slapping another person in the ear just before 11:45 Wednesday morning at an address on Cedar Street. The alleged victim suffered a concussion, and Cooper reportedly also threatened to kill them.

Cooper was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation just before 10:30 Saturday night on Byington Road near Grand Avenue. She was taken into custody on a warrant for the alleged assault as well as a no-contact order violation stemming from a July 12th incident in which she allegedly tried to text and Facebook message a protected party in Iowa City.

A search incident to arrest reportedly turned up approximately 26 Xanax pills, over five grams of psilocybin mushrooms, six THC vape cartridges still in the packaging, three Adderall pills, and two Klonopin pills. She has a previous felony marijuana conviction from 2023.

Cooper, who also lists a home address on Triple Crown Lane in Iowa City, is now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 1st Degree Harassment, a no-contact order violation, a Controlled Substance Violation, a Drug Tax Stamp Violation, and four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance…one of which is a second offense.

If convicted on all charges against her, Cooper faces a maximum of 14 years in prison.
