The University of Iowa announced Thursday that they’re opening a new Office of Writing and Communication.
The Gazette reports the new office, which will be housed within the UI Office of the Provost, hopes to connect the wide array of writing and communication programming across campus, from the world-renowned Iowa Writer’s Workshop to the undergraduate writing certificate to its screenwriting program and its creative writing major.
A university-wide committee charged with finding ways to enhance and support the writing community on campus came up with the concept. They met with faculty and staff across campus to gather input.
Hiring for the office will begin this summer, starting with an executive director who’ll lead first-phase efforts in the coming academic year. It hasn’t been announced whether a national search will be launched or if they will look within the UI community for the new hires.
