A single-vehicle crash south of West Liberty led to an emergency road closure and issues with electricity on Thursday.
The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office says a single vehicle accident occurred Thursday morning which resulted in damage to a power pole near the intersection of Highway 70 and 140th Street. The power pole sustained enough damage that it needed to be replaced immediately.
Traffic control personnel arrived on the scene to assist Alliant Energy for a single lane closure with alternating traffic. Motorists were encouraged to use a detour that included heading east on 155th Street (F70) to Kelly Avenue, then going north to Highway 6. Southbound traffic detoured east on Highway 6 to Kelley Avenue, then south to 155th Street (F70).
The crash also caused power issues in the city of West Liberty, which was forced to use a backup generator for residents for several hours.
