A Black Hawk County man accused of masturbating in a University of Iowa Health Care waiting room has reached a plea deal.
UI Police were called to the second floor of the Pomerantz Pavilion on Hawkins Drive just after 8:15 on the morning of June 27th. A witness reports hearing a “bang or crash” in a waiting room, and running in to find 36-year-old Demetry Lewis of Waterloo lying on a bench with his hand down his pants, masturbating. The loud noise was reportedly caused by Lewis knocking over a lamp while pleasuring himself.
The witness reports other people were present in the waiting room at the time.
Arriving officers say Lewis smelled of ingested alcohol and showed signs of intoxication. He allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol during his trip down from Waterloo.
Lewis was charged with Indecent Exposure and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he would have faced a maximum of 13 months in jail. After Tuesday’s plea deal, only the exposure charge is still listed in online records.
Sentencing is set for September 4th.
