A ranger at Lake Macbride State Park claims a drunk driving suspect told him she was driving to the bathroom when she was found in her parked car early Saturday morning.
63-year-old Lauren Potter of Iowa City was reportedly in the driver’s seat of a 2012 Jeep Patriot that was found parked perpendicular to the roadway and partially in a handicapped spot at the Lake Macbride South Campground on Cottage Reserve Road near Mehaffey Bridge at about 12:30 a.m. The vehicle was not running.
The ranger made contact with Potter, who reportedly told him she had been driving from her campsite to the bathroom. Arrest records indicate she showed signs of intoxication, and an empty alcohol container was located on the passenger floorboard. When asked how much she’d had to drink, Potter allegedly replied, “some wine”.
Potter reportedly provided breath alcohol levels of .171% and .162% and kept insisting she had driven her Jeep to the bathroom. She was eventually charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
