Iowa City Police have arrested a suspect accused of threatening joggers and pedestrians on a City Park trail.
Witnesses report passing 39-year-old Alexander Navarro of Brown Street as he was jogging in the opposite direction as them just after 12:30 on the afternoon of June 2nd. One person reported Navarro ran right at them, forcing them to move off the trail. The person began recording video of Navarro as he continued down the path, and Navarro can be heard yelling, “I’m going to f—ing kill you!” as he passed someone else. Others report Navarro yelling, “Die, bitches, die!” as he made his hands into the shape of guns and pointed at their faces.
None of the people who reported the incident knows Navarro, who was located by police a short distance away. He allegedly admitted to yelling at people.
Navarro is now charged with Simple Assault and two counts of 2nd Degree Harassment. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 90 days in jail.
