A Coralville man has been sentenced to over a decade in federal prison for Possession with Intent to Distribute 40 Grams or More of a Mixture and Substance Containing a Detectable Amount of Fentanyl and Carrying a Firearm During and in Relation to a Drug Crime.
According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, 35-year-old Jacky Mabikulu of 10th Street possessed a loaded handgun and 397 fentanyl pills designed to look like prescription medication. In 2022 and 2024, Mabikulu was convicted in the Iowa District Court for Johnson County for possessing firearms as a felon after traffic stops on Kansas Avenue in North Liberty and on South Dubuque Street in Iowa City.
After completing his 12-year term of imprisonment, Mabikulu will be required to serve a four-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
