A University of Iowa student is accused of breaking a parking gate arm after a night at the downtown Iowa City bars.

UI Police say the freshman was on his way back to his room at Burge Hall just after 1:45 Sunday morning when he tried jumping over a parking gate just south of Daum Hall, causing it to break. An officer who witnessed the incident followed the student into Burge Hall, where he reports seeing signs of intoxication. The 18-year-old allegedly admitted to having six beers earlier in the night, then produced the fake ID he used to obtain the alcohol.

The liberal arts student is now charged with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief, Possession of a Fake ID and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
