A Michigan woman was arrested late Sunday night after a welfare check reportedly found her operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Police were called to the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson on Heartland Place in Coralville at approximately 11:19pm on reports of a woman asleep in the driver’s seat of a 2024 Chevy Blazer.  Upon contact, 22-year-old Lyndi Daniels of Brighton Michigan was awakened and asked out of the vehicle.

Daniels was allegedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, impaired balance, and the odor of ingested alcohol. After performing poorly on field sobriety testing, she agreed to a PBT which showed her breath-alcohol level over the legal limit to safely operate a vehicle.

Officers reportedly observed several open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, and an alcoholic beverage sitting next to her in the center console.

A Datamaster showed her breath-alcohol level at .244 percent, over three times the legal limit to drive.

Daniels was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor. On Monday, she had her initial court appearance. Daniels was released on her own recognizance and a public defender was appointed ahead of future court dates.
