Iowa City West High School ranked as the top high school in the state for the fourth consecutive year by U.S. News and World Report.
The Daily Iowan reports West’s student body consists of 1,472 students in the 2024-2025 school year. 38 percent of the students were between 130 and 185 percent of the federal poverty line.
The school offers 29 different AP, or Advanced Placement courses to students. Last school year, West High administered nearly 1200 AP exams. They also allow students to take dual-enrollment courses through Kirkwood Community College.
West has an average ACT composite score of 25, compared to the state average of 21. They have a graduation rate of 95 percent, compared to the state average of 88 percent.
The school also ranked in the top 500 high schools in the country, coming in at number 477.
