For the seventh time this year, the Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index, a leading economic indicator for the nine-state region stretching from Minnesota to Arkansas, rose slightly above growth neutral in August.
With 50 being growth neutral, the Index rose to 50.5 in August, from 49.4 in July.
Ernie Goss, PhD, Director of Creighton University’s Economic Forecasting Group, said the Survey continues to reflect job losses across the region, combined with elevated wholesale inflation.
The employment index has been below growth neutral for the last five months.
Iowa’s Business Conditions Index for August increased to 45.8 from 43.7 in July. Missouri had the highest index number, at 54.4. The other states surveyed include Arkansas, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Oklahoma.
