An Iowa City homeless shelter has informed an encampment outside that they’ll have to disperse.

KCRG TV reports Shelter House posted signs Monday to inform the residents of the encampment that they need to be off the property ahead of inspection from the City of Iowa City, or else the emergency shelter could be shut down.

The people and their belongings need to be off the property by 5pm Friday.

Christine Hayes, Director of Development, told the station that ultimately, the Shelter needs to pass inspection or they would be in the worst-case scenario of trying to help everybody and ending up helping no one by being shut down.

Residents of the encampment say they’re unsure where they’ll end up when dispersed.
