A Coralville man has been arrested after an investigation determined he reportedly stole scuba gear, credit and debit cards from a vehicle.
The incident occurred the afternoon of August 5th at Lake MacBride Park. The victim was scuba diving in the lake when 33-year-old Randy Jones of Coral Court allegedly took about $500 in scuba gear from the victim’s unlocked vehicle, along with their credit and debit cards.
After leaving the scene, Jones reportedly used the stolen credit card within an hour of the incident at several Solon businesses.
A search warrant was executed on Jones’ residence, and police allegedly found several of the stolen items and some of the items purchased with the victim’s credit card.
A warrant was issued for Jones’ arrest on September 2nd; he was taken into custody Monday and charged with 3rd degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Identity Theft, Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, and 4th degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, Jones could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
