The University of Iowa chapter of Turning Point USA held a memorial for the national group’s late founder, Charlie Kirk, Monday night at Hubbard Park. The conservative activist was shot and killed at a rally last week in Utah.

Monday night’s events included a candlelight vigil, speeches from those who say their lives were changed by Kirk’s speeches and activism, and prayer. The Daily Iowan estimated the crowd at about 300.

Kirk founded Turning Point USA in 2012 as a way to encourage conservative college and high school students to become more engaged and involved in politics.
