An Iowa City woman wanted since January 2016 for an alleged theft from her employer was arrested this month.
According to the criminal complaint, 30-year-old Toikenna Faulkner of Miller Avenue was working at Walmart on Highway 1 West for about a month when the incidents began on November 30th, 2015. On thirteen different occasions between then and December 16th, Faukner could reportedly be seen on surveillance video taking money out of the cash register when it opened. On each of the days she worked, her register came up short of cash.
The total amount allegedly stolen by Faulkner was $4830.
After being read her rights by police, Faulkner admitted to stealing the money, and said she needed it to give to her landlord. She also reportedly wrote out a statement to Walmart about why she stole the money. When asked where the money was, Faulkner allegedly said she didn’t have any of it left.
A warrant for her arrest was issued on January 26, 2016, and she remained at large until September 20th, when she was charged with 2nd degree Theft. If convicted, Faulkner faces a prison term of up to five years.
She was released on her own recognizance pending arraignment.
