A Muscatine woman faces charges after a traffic stop for speeding last week in Lone Tree.
According to the police report, 23-year-old Amari Jones of West 7th Street was going 70 miles an hour in a 55 miles per hour zone as she was heading east on Highway 22 around 12:45am Thursday. She allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and had the odor of ingested alcohol.
Deputies reportedly found approximately 20 Jose Cuervo “shooters” in the vehicle, three of which were located on her person. A THC pen was also allegedly found.
After showing measurable signs of impairment on field tests, Jones refused a PBT but agreed to a Datamaster test. Her breath-alcohol level was measured at .066 percent, within the legal limit. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated Jones and determined she was under the influence of a combination of alcohol and cannabis and unable to safely operate a vehicle. A urine sample was collected.
Jones was charged with first offense OWI, an open container violation, and speeding. If convicted on the drunk driving charge, she could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
