The suspect in an assault with injury at the Old Capitol Town Center has skipped another court date.
A warrant was issued on Thursday for the arrest of 58-year-old transient David Murray. Court records indicate Murray skipped a case management conference that was scheduled for last Monday.
Iowa City Police say on the morning of January 29th, Murray attacked another man who was already being assaulted by 53-year-old Shelter House resident Charles Henderson.
Investigators say the victim was on the ground after Henderson put him in a headlock and punched him in the face. That’s when Murray allegedly kicked the man in the head. Murray reportedly told police he was a passerby and decided to attack the man after Henderson had attacked him because he knew the victim had previously been accused of sexual assault.
Both Murray and Henderson were charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Henderson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Disorderly Conduct in February and was sentenced to one day in jail. Murray still faces up to one year in jail, if convicted.
Murray also skipped a hearing in the case in April.
